BACKGROUND |
A Little History...
In 1912, THE
CHILDREN'S AID SOCIETY was formed to address the problems of children who were abused,
neglected, or abandoned. Today the home primarily provides services to Child
Protective Services children and Juvenile Probation youth ages 2-17 who are transitioning
back to their families. We work closely with these agencies to provide placement,
as the future needs of the child are determined.
In 1992 the
TEEN EMERGENCY SHELTER was built as an addition to the Children's Home program to
provide a Safe Place to runaways or youth experiencing significant family conflict.
The Teen Shelter offers private placement based on a sliding fee scale, with no
one being turned away due to inability to pay. Business establishments,
which display the Safe Place sign, also act as a referral source for youth ages
10-17 who come into their business and seek emergency services.

The Teen Shelter is Funded in part by a Health and Human Services Basic Center Grant for Runaway and Homeless Youths. |

To
provide shelter, supervision, and counseling for children in crisis; to cooperate
with other agencies in order to resolve problems related to the welfare of these
children; to assist the families of these children in seeking possible solutions
to their problems.
Children's
Aid Society received funding from various sources: TDFPS per diem, United Way (designated
funds only), Wichita County Contract/Grant, Health and Human Services/RHY Grant
(at TES only), Special Nutrition, private foundations, individual and community
donations, and fundraisers.
